Charitable Accesories

Shout out to Cuyana, who donate 30% of the profits of their beautiful classic pieces to charity:water. All luxury brands should do this. Check out their beautiful totes and weekend bags...

and this alpaca infinity scarf is soft, dreamy and would work with almost any outfit.

Paris musings

God I wish I were in Paris, maybe in my very cool old friend Fanny's apartment with her theatre director husband cooking us dinner and drinking wine late into the night...

Some collections defy wearability which I sometimes tolerate in the name of art and beauty... but some don't really fall under under any category much less ready-to-wear, in that to me, no woman would wish to look that hideous and lacking in style. In any case, some looks I love....

Dries Van Noten RTW Fall 2013 absolutely love the idea of layering a delicate blouse over a crisp shirt, under a blazer. Beautiful scarves, shoes, bags and jewellery make the look.

Martine Sitbon's offerings at Rue du Mail RTW Fall 2013 had lovely moments too for me, really like this exaggerated feminine tuxedo look.

And love seeing Canadian Jessica Stam strutting her stuff though does she look a bit skinny/sick? Hard to say with the makeup and what is no doubt a strenuous season, hope the girl is healthy. I like the use of the art nouveau-ish flowers....

and prefer it here with the indigo... pretty. I like the easiness of these dresses.

And last but not least for now, Nicolas Andreas Taralis RTW Fall 2013 which is essentially an androgynous black leather kinda collection, a la

who incidentally is exactly (with some tats and piercings) what I imagine Lisbeth Salander to look like.

But I thought what a beautiful unconventional wedding dress a combo of this

and this

would make, in creams, with loads of multicoloured dusky roses.... mmm....

Wild West and Heavy Metal Chic

Lovin' the Wild West at Veronique Branquinho RTW Fall 2013. I have a bit of a soft spot for the equestrian, rough, western vibe in the way it's usually done by say, Ralph Lauren, and this collection suggests that to me... Many of the other pieces play with silks, sheers, luxurious elegant fabrics and unexpected animal hides, but these were my favourite looks (maybe because I always imagine myself wearing them, and these are just more 'me'.)

And then there is the biker/heavy metal chic look at Anthony Vaccarello RTW Fall 2013. I love the play on hard and soft with the soft fabrics combined with leather and metal.

When I was younger I was known for wearing only black, white and red. Expanding my repertoire in subsequent years, I still preferred neutrals, solids, safe pieces. Lately, I have become much more interested in pattern, colour; in distinctive, eye-catching pieces. And since having a daughter almost 14 months ago, I have developed a fondness for sweetness that I never had before. Suddenly pink, hearts and girlishness don't seem so puke-inducing.

I was therefore intrigued by Aquilano.Rimondi's RTW Fall line because he used a sweet print and feminine shapes to create something that is not at all overly saccharine. Beautiful.

Thanks to streaming and Apple TV, I am no longer terribly behind the times Project Runway-wise. Holy amazing episode from last night, hard and soft with unconventional materials from a florist and a hardware store. Every piece was pretty cool. And guest judges were Bette Midler and Leandra Medine (!!!!!) a.k.a. The Man Repeller. I have been really inspired by her, she has really done amazingly well for herself, and she has become a stylist and semi-celebrity through her honest, funny, creative and personal fashion blog, probably my favourite out there.

I also browsed through the Marc Jacobs RTW Fall 2013 and am kind of unimpressed. 3/4 length jackets and boring pencil skirts made of green fur... What woman wants to look like a big front lawn? And he has a real aversion to pants or women covering their legs apparently, and in one awesome look, put his model in nothing but hot pants. I honestly think some of these designers really take their fame and prestige for granted....

RIP Reeva

I'd like to express my sadness at the tragic slaying of South African model Reeva Steenkamp. Seems so very wrong, whether it was accidental or deliberate. I hope they get to the bottom of this, and convict him if he is a murderer so he can't hurt any more women. A good friend of mine had the sh*t beat out of her two weeks ago by her husband and she won't report it. I am SICK of men's violence against women. RIP Reeva you were so beautiful, and condolences to your family, friends and fans who are no doubt devastated atm.

I love Project Runway so much. Allstars aired in the states ages ago I know but in Canada it's later. I know Althea Harper and Laura Kathleen won't win but it is still such a platform for these designers.

I love this dress by Althea Harper http://altheaharper.com/ss-2013-campaign/.

Also like Laura Kathleen's flowy feminine aesthetic...

http://www.laurakathleen.com/main.php - this dress is Fall 2011.

Hopefully these girls' careers will flourish. They've definitely inspired me a little bit.
